To make an AC electric motor, all we have to do is redesign the contacts to the electromagnet.

Now, instead of split rings, there are two complete rings.

They are usually on the same side of the electromagnet.

But to make things easier to see, we’ve put one on each side.

The moving red arrow shows how one end of the electromagnetic is wired to the front ring.

And the moving green arrow shows how the other end of the electromagnet is wired to the back ring.
